- Your kids will become more physically fit
With obesity among children on the rise, finding ways to keep them fit is essential if they’re to lead happy and healthy lives. However, not all children enjoy athletic or team sports, in which case martial arts may be just the solution. Your child will still learn to be really fit, but they will not have to compete as part of a team or have a coach screaming in their ear. Martial Arts training is usually one on one and children work at their own pace.
- They will become more confident and gain self-respect
Our incredible team of instructors will teach your children valuable life lessons that they will carry with them, long after taekwondo training is over. We begin every single class by stating our tenets (courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, indomitable spirit) and then those tenets are lived out in the way we go about our training. Students who continue in martial arts training will start to see these characteristics overflowing into every aspect of their lives.
- Your kids will learn to ‘switch off’ and appreciate silence and calm
No matter how hard we may try to prevent our kids from being continually plugged into electronic devices, and from being constantly connected to others via social media, it’s tough, especially when all of their friends are doing the same. Martial arts though, can teach your kids that focusing on what they’re doing and not being distracted by pumping music, television screens, or messages on social media, will get them the best results. They will learn to be ‘in the moment’ and to focus while facing the challenges of learning a martial arts discipline.

Martial arts disciplines are not about violence or aggression; they are about controlled movements that your child can use to defend themselves, to help give themselves confidence in everyday life and to keep themselves fit. Anti-bullying and conflict resolution are a part of our training at David Church’s TaeKwonDo and we always teach our students that they must never misuse TaeKwonDo. Your children will be training to defend themselves, but a peaceful resolution is always the preferred outcome for any situation.
